Anambra Government Urges APGA Supporters to Reject Obi

Published 5 October 2026

The Anambra State Government has urged supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to reject Peter Obi and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying support for the former governor would undermine the party. The government’s official X account published the appeal in a post titled “A Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGA.” The post called on APGA supporters to defend the party and resist the NDC. It alleged Obi had worked against APGA since leaving it in 2014 and described a vote for Obi and the NDC as a vote to kill the party. The government also referred to an alleged 2025 alignment, claiming Obi supported opposition to APGA while President Bola Tinubu stood with the party. The reports provide no independent evidence establishing that allegation. Obi, who governed Anambra on APGA’s platform from 2006 to 2014, later left the party for the Peoples Democratic Party. He is now identified in the reports as the NDC’s presidential candidate for 2027. The government’s post urged APGA supporters not to abandon the party because of his candidacy. The NDC rejected the government’s characterization.
