Atiku seeks breakdown of N11.2 trillion NNPC receivable

Published 5 October 2026

Atiku Abubakar has called for a detailed public accounting of about N11.2 trillion recorded in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s 2025 accounts as other receivables from the Federation, asking what portion relates to protecting oil and gas assets and how the money was used. The figure is recorded as money owed to NNPC, not as N11.2 trillion paid to pipeline-surveillance contractors. Atiku, a presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, made the demand through campaign spokesperson Phrank Shaibu. He asked NNPC and the Presidency to disclose the amounts associated with asset protection, payments made, recipients, services performed and results. The accounts do not provide an itemized breakdown establishing how much of the receivable was spent specifically on pipeline surveillance. The company’s 2025 accounts describe approximately N11.2 trillion as other receivables from the Federation. NNPC has said the federal government is expected to reimburse it for costs incurred to protect the country’s oil and gas assets under an approved framework.
