INEC schedules 2027 election preparations briefing

Published 6 October 2026

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission is scheduled to brief stakeholders and the public in Abuja on October 6 about preparations for the 2027 general elections, as the polls enter a 100-day countdown. The commission has said the event will include a press conference and a national stakeholders meeting, but the available information does not establish whether the gathering has taken place or what was announced. INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan is expected to address the meeting, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre. The commission said its agenda includes the voters register, candidate nominations, election logistics and measures to protect the integrity of the electoral process. Political party leaders, security agencies, diplomatic representatives, development partners, civil society organisations and election observers are among those expected to attend. Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives were also listed as participants.
