Trump Shares False Denzel Washington Endorsement
President Donald Trump shared a social-media post falsely attributing an endorsement to actor Denzel Washington, amplifying a claim that Washington’s representative said was not real. Trump reposted an image on his Truth Social account on October 12 that had originated with Red Eagle Updates, a pro-Trump account on X. The image attributed to Washington praise describing Trump as exceptionally brave and smart, a great friend and an even better president, and said the actor was a steadfast supporter. It also asked users whether they agreed with Washington. Alan Nierob, Washington’s representative, told The Washington Post that the purported endorsement was not real. Fact-checkers reported finding no credible evidence that Washington made the statement. The reporting does not establish who created the wording or where it first appeared. The same passage had previously circulated with the names of actor Matthew McConaughey and Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger attached, according to fact-checking reports. Those earlier attributions likewise lacked credible evidence.
