Trump Says Rally Supporters Would Applaud Anything He Said

Published 11 October 2026

President Donald Trump told supporters at a rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, on October 10 that they would applaud even if he said “the stupidest things,” drawing cheers from the crowd before he described his positions as common sense. Trump made the remark while reflecting on the reception he receives at rallies. He recounted a friend asking how he managed to speak before large audiences and said it was easy because of the affection he felt in the room. After the audience chanted his name and someone shouted that they loved him, Trump said supporters would clap at anything he said. He immediately qualified the line, saying his positions were not foolish but sensible, and cited border security, low taxes and a strong military. The event at FM Bank Arena was held in support of Tennessee Republicans Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Hagerty is a senator and Blackburn is running for governor. Trump urged attendees to support Republican candidates and asked them to treat the election as if he were on the ballot.
