Trump asks Supreme Court to revive dismissed Clinton lawsuit
President Donald Trump has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to revive his dismissed lawsuit accusing Hillary Clinton, the Democratic National Committee and others of conspiring to damage his 2016 campaign by associating it with Russia. His petition, filed October 9, also seeks review of sanctions of nearly $1 million that lower courts upheld. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Florida in 2022, alleged that Clinton and other defendants promoted a false narrative that Trump’s campaign had coordinated with Russia. Those allegations remain claims in the case, not findings established by the petition. The suit named Clinton, the DNC, former FBI Director James Comey, former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele and others. A federal judge dismissed the case in 2022, ruling in part that some claims had been filed too late and that the complaint lacked legal merit. The judge later ordered Trump and his lawyer Alina Habba to pay nearly $1 million in legal fees and costs. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the dismissal and sanctions in 2025.
