Trump Forms Panel to Investigate Lisa Cook Allegations

Published 9 October 2026

President Donald Trump has established a three-member White House committee to investigate mortgage-document allegations against Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook and recommend whether there is cause to remove her. The inquiry follows a Supreme Court ruling that kept Cook in office after an earlier removal attempt because she had not received proper notice and an opportunity to respond. A presidential memorandum dated October 7 sets a closed, transcribed hearing for November 5 at the White House. Cook is required to appear and may present arguments, documents and written witness statements, with assistance from counsel. The hearing is limited to four hours, and the committee is to provide Cook with the evidence it will consider beforehand. She may submit a written position statement at least three days before the hearing and a final written response by November 10. The panel consists of White House assistant for economic policy Kevin Hassett, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission chair Andrea Lucas and Office of Government Ethics director Keith Sonderling.
