Kalshi Reviews Bets Before Zacharia Appointment
Kalshi is examining three bets placed shortly before President Donald Trump announced Katie Zacharia as his choice for White House press secretary, after the platform’s market had given her about a 1% chance of winning the job. The traders’ identities are not public, and the timing alone does not establish that they had confidential information or broke any rules. A Kalshi spokeswoman confirmed the company’s review of the trades, according to reporting cited by both accounts. The wagers were placed on Thursday night and Friday afternoon, with the two Friday bets made less than 20 minutes before news of Zacharia’s appointment broke. One trader staked $19 late Thursday, a position reported as potentially returning $1,896 if it wins. Two more bets, of about $74 and $80, were placed Friday afternoon and were reported as potentially paying $3,689 and $4,023. The potential returns are conditional on the contracts settling in the traders’ favor; they are not confirmed profits. Trump announced Zacharia’s appointment on Truth Social on Friday afternoon, naming her to replace Karoline Leavitt.
