XRP Ledger activates account delegation feature

Published 9 October 2026

The XRP Ledger activated PermissionDelegationV1_1 on October 8, allowing account owners to assign specified tasks to other accounts without sharing the keys that control their primary accounts. The feature gives businesses a way to divide account responsibilities among separate accounts, such as assigning customer-approval duties to a compliance account and payment tasks to an operations account. Delegated accounts use their own signing keys, and the account owner can change or revoke permissions. The activation makes the feature available on the ledger; no bank, stablecoin issuer or fund manager had publicly confirmed using it, according to one report. Each delegated account can receive up to 10 permissions. Those permissions restrict the types of actions an account can take, but do not set custom spending limits or rules such as allowing transfers only to specified addresses. Businesses would need other software or approval processes for those controls. XRPL documentation also says a delegation creates an on-ledger object that counts toward the primary account’s reserve requirement.
