Trump Says Russia Will Supply Diesel Under Temporary License

Published 9 October 2026

President Donald Trump said Russia would supply staged shipments of diesel to the global market after a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the U.S. Treasury Department said it was issuing a temporary license to permit the supply. The announced deliveries have not been independently confirmed, and the available information does not establish that they will lower fuel prices. Trump said Russia would provide more than 300,000 tons immediately, another 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons thereafter. He said a further 3 million tons could be delivered within a short period, depending on the condition of Russian refineries. The schedule and quantities were announced by Trump; no shipment records were provided. At a White House event on October 9, Trump had earlier promised major news on diesel without giving details. He said prices would fall, but the Treasury Department’s announcement confirmed only that its Office of Foreign Assets Control was issuing a temporary general license. The license’s terms and duration were not detailed in the information provided. The announcement comes as U.S. diesel prices remain near record highs.
