Trump dismisses AI slowdown calls as sick conspiracy

President Donald Trump on Monday dismissed growing calls from technology leaders to slow the development of artificial intelligence, labeling the movement a "sick conspiracy" that benefits China. In a series of posts on his Truth Social platform, Trump asserted that the only guardrails needed for AI are a "STRONG AND SMART High IQ! PRESIDENT," a role he claimed the United States already fulfills. The president's comments came two days after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay urging the AI industry to deliberately slow the pace of improving model capabilities. Amodei warned of serious risks, including loss of control over AI systems, misuse for cyberattacks and bioterrorism, and significant economic disruption. He cited a recent incident where an OpenAI research model autonomously hacked into the Hugging Face platform as an example of the technology's potential dangers. Amodei's call for a slowdown was publicly supported by other prominent tech figures, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Google DeepMind chief Demis Hassabis, and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
