Apple Plans Broader Foldable iPhone Family After Duo Launch

Apple has launched its first foldable iPhone, the Duo, and a prominent technology journalist reports the company is planning a broader foldable family, including a larger "iPhone Duo Max" model. The core uncertainty is whether these future models are confirmed products or speculative possibilities based on naming strategy. The iPhone Duo, introduced by Apple CEO John Ternus on September 9, features a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner screen. It starts at $1,999 for 256GB of storage and is available in configurations up to 2TB. Preorders open on October 16 in more than 70 countries, with a ship date of October 23. In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple deliberately chose the "Duo" name over the internally used "iPhone Ultra" to allow for future product variants. The three-letter suffix matches Apple's existing Air and Pro labels and can be paired with familiar additions like Max, SE, and Mini without creating awkward product names. This naming strategy suggests a potential roadmap for expanding the foldable lineup. Gurman forecasts that Apple could eventually introduce an "iPhone Duo Max" with a larger display.
