Tropical Storm Dolly Forms in Atlantic, Expected to Weaken

Tropical Storm Dolly formed in the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday, becoming the fourth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, but forecasters expect the system to be short-lived and unlikely to develop into a significant threat to land. The National Hurricane Center announced the formation of Dolly at 11 a.m. ET on August 27, reporting that the storm was located approximately 1,555 miles east of the Leeward Islands. It was moving west at 24 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, just above the threshold for a tropical storm. The storm is forecast to remain weak and is expected to degenerate into a tropical wave before reaching the Leeward Islands this weekend.
