TRON Post-Quantum Signatures Go Live on Testnet

Published 12 October 2026

TRON’s post-quantum signature system went live on its Nile testnet in July, and founder Justin Sun says the network is ready to bring the technology to mainnet. Mainnet activation, however, still requires approval from TRON’s governance bodies, with the stated target now set for the end of 2026. The testnet upgrade, activated July 2 through Committee Proposal No. 20628, introduced two opt-in signature schemes: FNDSA512, based on Falcon512, and MLDSA44, based on Dilithium. The schemes are intended to protect transaction signing, block production, communications between nodes and smart-contract verification within the TRON Virtual Machine. They remain confined to the testnet, and use of the new signatures is optional. Sun said in an October 10 post on X that TRON could bring quantum resistance to mainnet at any time. That statement describes the network’s readiness, not an approved launch date: separate governance approval is needed before activation. TRON’s earlier roadmap targeted mainnet readiness in the third quarter of 2026; the current target is the end of the year. The upgrade is intended to address a future risk.
