Three horses die in Highway 1 crash near Revelstoke
Three of four horses being transported to the National Dressage and Para Dressage Championships died after their trailer crashed on Highway 1 near Revelstoke, British Columbia, on October 6, Equestrian Canada said. The fourth horse was injured and taken for veterinary treatment. BC Highway Patrol said the crash occurred about 40 kilometres east of Revelstoke. The driver, a 73-year-old woman from Langdon, Alberta, lost control of the vehicle, which struck a rock wall, police said. She was not seriously injured. Police said the driver was issued a $109 ticket for violations involving lane position and driving off the road to the right. The horses were travelling from Alberta and Manitoba to the championships at Thunderbird Show Park in Langley. Thunderbird Show Park CEO Chris Pack said the trailer flipped and the three horses were put down at the scene. He said the surviving horse, identified by Pack as Flirty, was taken to a veterinary clinic. Pack described its prognosis as poor but said there might still be a chance it would survive. The available information does not establish the horse’s eventual condition.
