Condolences and calls for probe after Ondo air crash

Published 7 October 2026

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have expressed condolences after a Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashed near Igbokoda in Ondo State, while CAN called for a thorough investigation and attention to any safety recommendations. The reports describe deaths among Nigerian Air Force personnel and other people, but do not provide a confirmed casualty count or breakdown. The cause of the crash has not been established in the available accounts. NDLEA chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa sent a condolence letter to Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, conveying sympathy to Air Force personnel and the families of those killed, according to the agency’s statement. Marwa described the loss of officers serving the country as a blow to the Air Force and the wider national security community. CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh also offered condolences to bereaved families, the Nigerian Air Force and the broader Armed Forces. The association said the government’s decision to investigate was appropriate and urged authorities to make the process thorough, professional and transparent.
