Trump Announces $17.9 Million in Wisconsin Disaster Aid

Published 8 October 2026

President Donald Trump announced that he would approve $17.9 million in federal aid for Wisconsin storm and tornado recovery, while linking the announcement to a conversation with and endorsement of Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany. The announcement does not by itself establish that the funds have been formally approved or communicated to the state. Trump made the announcement Wednesday, October 7, in a post on Truth Social. He said he had spoken with Tiffany and would approve the aid for storms and tornadoes that struck Wisconsin. Tiffany, a U.S. representative running for governor, said Trump called him about the roughly $18 million in assistance and that he appreciated the administration’s response to Wisconsin’s needs. Gov. Tony Evers had requested federal assistance in late August for residents in Winnebago, Outagamie, Vilas and Forest counties. According to his office, assessments by Wisconsin Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency found a combined $22.2 million in damages. Trump did not specify the source of the announced funding or whether it would cover damage to public infrastructure, homes or both.
