Supreme Court Registry Flags 14 Defects in INDIA Bloc Petition
The Supreme Court registry flagged 14 filing defects in a petition by Rahul Gandhi and 10 other INDIA bloc leaders challenging the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, delaying its progress toward a hearing. The objections include a ₹220 court-fee shortfall, an unclear copy of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s identity card and missing or unsigned lawyer authorisations for nine petitioners. The registry also sought clearer supporting documents, including digital copies of the Election Commission’s June 24, 2025, decision to initiate the revision and records related to voter deletions. It raised a query about why individual Election Commissioners had been named as respondents in the petition. The objections concern the filing and are not a ruling on the petition’s claims. Gandhi and the other petitioners seek an interim suspension of the revision across states while the court considers their case. They also ask for an independent committee, headed by a retired Supreme Court judge and supported by technical experts, to audit changes to electoral rolls.
