INDIA Bloc Plans Delhi March, Seeks CJI Intervention
The INDIA bloc says it will hold a protest march in Delhi on Monday, October 12, and send senior leaders to seek Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s intervention over alleged electoral irregularities. The plan was announced by Congress general secretary K. C. Venugopal as the opposition grouping continues its campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Venugopal said the delegation would submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice. Rahul Gandhi, the opposition’s leader in the Lok Sabha, also said leaders would seek a meeting with Surya Kant and hand over a memorandum. The reports describe a planned approach to the court; they do not establish whether a meeting will take place or what response the Chief Justice may make. The INDIA bloc alleges “vote chori” and irregularities in electoral rolls, including the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR. It is demanding Kumar’s resignation. Those claims are opposition allegations and are not independently established in the reports. The bloc has also called for changes related to recent Assembly elections and the electoral-roll revision, but its central announced action for Monday is the march and memorandum.
