Starfleet Academy Final Season Set for March 2027
Paramount announced at its New York Comic Con Star Trek panel that Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’s second season will premiere in March 2027. The season will also be the series’ last, according to an earlier report cited in coverage of the announcement; that status was not presented as a new panel announcement. The panel also revealed that Bill Nighy and Rosemarie DeWitt will guest star. Nighy will play Nyk Ake, the estranged father of Holly Hunter’s character, Chancellor Nahla Ake. DeWitt will portray Laytha Sadal, the mother of cadet Tarima Sadal. Both are guest roles. Paramount’s season-two synopsis places the cadets in their second year aboard the USS Athena. Their leadership, friendships, relationships and moral judgments will be tested by rivalries, diplomatic negotiations and a schoolwide tournament. The synopsis also introduces a mysterious new cadet whose presence raises questions with possible consequences beyond the classroom. The New York Comic Con presentation included cast members and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau. Attendees saw footage from the season and first-look images, and the panel introduced a clip featuring a new character.
