Sri Lanka name 16 for Pakistan tri-series, omit Asalanka
Sri Lanka Cricket named a 16-player squad on October 4 for the ODI tri-series in Pakistan, appointing Kusal Mendis captain and leaving out former captain Charith Asalanka and allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga. The tournament, involving Pakistan and England, is scheduled to run from October 18 to 31, with matches in Rawalpindi and Lahore. Pathum Nissanka is included in the squad, but Sri Lanka Cricket said he will travel only if medical staff declare him fit. The announcement did not specify his condition, and no replacement was named. His participation therefore remains unresolved. Avishka Fernando and Sahan Arachchige return to the 50-over squad. The other 14 places are held by players retained from the recent England ODI series, according to reports on the selection. The full squad is Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Kamil Mishara, Pavan Rathnayake, Sahan Arachchige, Kamindu Mendis, Janith Liyanage, Dasun Shanaka, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Sachindu Colombage, Dushmantha Chameera, Asitha Fernando, Dilshan Madushanka and Eshan Malinga. Asalanka made scores of 1, 11 and 7 in Sri Lanka’s three ODIs against England.
