Spotify investigates service disruption after user reports spike

Published 29 September 2026

Spotify acknowledged a service disruption on September 29 after users reported trouble loading its app, searching for music, streaming audio and signing in. The company said on X that it was aware of the problems and was checking them, but did not identify a cause or provide a definitive account of the disruption’s scope. User-submitted reports to Downdetector rose sharply during the afternoon, with counts varying by time and location. Reports included more than 4,000 complaints around 3 p.m. GMT and later totals above 15,000 in the United States. Those figures represent reports submitted to the tracking service, not a verified count of affected customers, and should not be treated as a single measure of the outage’s scale. Users described error messages, an app that would not load, missing search results and difficulty playing online music. Some also said they had been logged out and could not sign back in. The reported impact was not uniform: accounts differed on whether downloaded music or music already playing continued to work, while some users said they could access the service through a desktop version.
