Spielberg to Lead Creative Direction on New Transformers Film

Published 6 October 2026

Paramount is developing an eighth live-action Transformers film, with Steven Spielberg taking a leading role in its creative direction and Michael Bay’s possible return as director still unclear. The project is in early development, based on a script by Jason Fuchs, and is set in the modern day, according to reports about the production. Spielberg will remain an executive producer and work with longtime franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. His expanded role includes overseeing the film’s creative direction, a responsibility similar to his involvement in the first two live-action Transformers movies. The reports describe the aim as recapturing the spirit of those earlier installments, though no further story details have been disclosed. Bay’s involvement has not been definitively established. Most accounts describe him as being in early talks to direct the eighth film. One detailed account says Bay read Fuchs’s script, met with Spielberg and was on board, but the available reporting does not establish that a directing agreement has been finalized. Paramount has not announced a director.
