SDP builds 2027 campaigns in Adamawa and Nasarawa

Published 8 October 2026

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is preparing candidates and seeking support for Nigeria’s 2027 governorship elections in Adamawa and Nasarawa, with party developments including an announced alliance by New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) members in Adamawa and defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa. The extent to which the shifts will affect either contest remains unclear. In Adamawa, NNPP members declared they would work with the SDP to elect its governorship candidate, Christopher Nathaniel. Mustapha Mohammad Abbo, speaking on their behalf, said their decision was based on Nathaniel’s proposed policies and political blueprint. The report did not specify how many members made the declaration. The announcement came at an SDP stakeholders meeting where the party presented Fauziyah Ahmed Rufai as Nathaniel’s deputy-governorship candidate. The presentation marked a step in preparations for the 2027 contest. Nathaniel said Rufai had been selected after consideration of qualities and experience he believed would complement the ticket. The available account did not detail the candidates’ policy platform or provide independent confirmation of the group’s size.
