Satellite images show continued demolition in Gaza

Published 8 October 2026

Satellite imagery shows continued demolition of buildings in Israeli-controlled parts of Gaza, including remaining structures in Rafah, while residents face widespread displacement and damaged infrastructure. The images, attributed to Planet Labs, indicate that destruction continued after the ceasefire began, although the full scale and timing of post-ceasefire demolitions have not been independently established in the material available. The imagery shows extensive areas of rubble across the Israeli-held part of the territory. It also identifies at least 50 Israeli military outposts there, including at least 18 built since the ceasefire began. In Rafah, where most buildings had already been demolished before the truce, images show troops continuing to demolish some of the structures that remained. Images also show extensive damage in other areas, including parts of Jabaliya, where much of the al-Awda Hospital Complex and several U.N.-run school buildings were reduced to rubble in recent months. The Israeli military says it demolishes buildings to prevent Hamas from using them or to destroy the group’s tunnel networks.
