Ruth Langsford announces death of rescue dog Maggie

Published 14 October 2026

Ruth Langsford announced on Wednesday that Maggie, the rescue dog she shared with former husband Eamonn Holmes, had died aged 16. In an Instagram tribute, the television presenter said Maggie’s passing was painless and peaceful and that she was with the dog until the end. Langsford described Maggie as a source of joy and unconditional love, and said she and her family had been fortunate to have her in their lives for 15 years. She added that they would treasure their memories and said goodbye to her “beautiful girl.” The account of Maggie’s age and the circumstances of her death came from Langsford’s tribute. Langsford and Holmes adopted Maggie, a border collie cross, from a Dogs Trust rescue centre in 2011. The couple separated in 2024, and reports say they continued to share custody of the dog after their split. Holmes had previously written that Langsford handled more of Maggie’s care because his wheelchair restricted his mobility. He also credited the dog with changing his life. The former couple’s arrangement meant both remained connected to Maggie after their separation, though Langsford’s announcement did not detail how care was divided at the time of her death.
