Russian strikes hit Ukrainian cities, killing civilians
Russian missiles and drones struck Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions overnight into Wednesday, killing people and damaging homes, industrial sites and infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said. A missile hit a five-storey apartment building in Pryluky, in the northern Chernihiv region, where sections of the structure collapsed and rescuers searched through the rubble. Casualty figures were changing as emergency work continued. Regional governor Viacheslav Chaus said at least nine people, including three children, were killed in Pryluky and about 40 were wounded. Earlier updates gave lower totals. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said six more people died in Kyiv, Oleksandriia and Kremenchuk. Officials in Kremenchuk separately reported two deaths and seven injuries. The reports did not establish a final toll for the full attack. The strikes also damaged buildings and facilities in several regions. Ukrainian officials reported damage to apartment buildings in Kremenchuk, an industrial facility in Dnipro, transport infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia and critical infrastructure in Oleksandriia. In Kyiv, officials reported deaths and damage to nonresidential buildings and a garage complex.
