Rochas Okorocha Arrested in Abuja Over Allegations

Published 13 October 2026

Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha was arrested in Abuja on Monday night over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation, according to the Nigeria Police Force. Police spokesperson Aniete Iniedu said Okorocha was questioned for about an hour and released on bail, with instructions to return to Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning. Iniedu told Channels Television that police arrested Okorocha at REIZ Continental Hotel. The investigation concerns allegations that have not been established by the reports. Police accounts said the arrest followed earlier invitations for questioning that Okorocha reportedly did not attend. The arrest occurred amid a dispute over the All Progressives Congress primary for the Imo West senatorial district. The Independent National Electoral Commission said its authentic report identified Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the primary winner. A different document naming Okorocha as the winner has circulated, and the commission asked security agencies to investigate its source and authenticity.
