Portugal provisionally suspends Ronaldo during urgent inquiry
The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has imposed a provisional suspension on Cristiano Ronaldo while it investigates his departure from the national team camp, opening urgent disciplinary proceedings and leaving the final penalty undecided. The federation said proceedings were initiated on October 9 over events reported on October 7. The case was referred to the FPF Disciplinary Instruction Committee on October 10, and further details will remain unpublished until the investigation concludes. The suspension is preventive and non-automatic, in addition to an automatic suspension that had applied before proceedings began, according to the federation’s statement. The dispute followed Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League win over Norway on September 27, when Ronaldo warmed up but remained an unused substitute. He later left the national team camp before Portugal’s match against Denmark on October 1. Reports describe a disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus over Ronaldo’s expected playing time, but the federation has not disclosed its findings or the evidence under review. Ronaldo has said Jesus broke his word about giving him playing time.
