Pidcock says police motorbike hit two teammates in Italy

Published 7 October 2026

Tom Pidcock said a police motorcyclist travelling against the direction of the race collided with his teammates Marcel Camprubí and Thomas Gloag during Tre Valli Varesine in Italy on Tuesday, October 6. Pidcock said Gloag stopped racing with a knee injury that required stitches, while Camprubí continued. Pidcock went on to finish second, behind Jarno Widar. Speaking after the race, Pidcock said the motorcyclist was going the wrong way along the course when it struck the two riders. He said the crash left him angry and briefly made him want to stop racing. His account was the basis for the reports describing how the collision happened; the available accounts do not independently establish why the motorcycle was travelling against the riders’ direction. Pidcock said Camprubí was able to continue and that Gloag was also all right in the end, though he stopped and needed stitches in his knee. The two riders were competing for Pinarello Q36.5. Camprubí later posted an image of his damaged bicycle on social media, with a message about the risks riders face on the course. The collision occurred with six laps remaining on the finishing circuit, according to reports.
