Vollering wins 2026 women’s road race world title

Demi Vollering won the elite women’s road race at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montréal, taking the title after a late attack was caught and she beat Kasia Niewiadoma in a sprint to the finish. Vollering completed the race in 4:45:09, according to the published results. Niewiadoma finished second on the same time. Elisa Longo Borghini took bronze, four seconds behind Vollering, while Marlen Reusser finished fourth, eight seconds back. The result gave the Netherlands the winner of the women’s elite road race title. Vollering launched her solo move with about 39 kilometres remaining, opening a gap before rivals chased her down ahead of the finish. Niewiadoma was among those who helped close the distance, and Longo Borghini also attacked during the pursuit. The lead group changed as the riders approached the final kilometres, leaving Vollering and Niewiadoma to contest the victory. Niewiadoma began her sprint inside the final 200 metres. Vollering responded and crossed the line first, while Longo Borghini held off Reusser for third.
