Penix Injured in Falcons’ Overtime Loss to Ravens
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. left Sunday’s 30-23 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens with a rib injury, and the team planned imaging to assess its severity. Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday, October 12, that the results should provide more information in the coming days. Penix’s availability for Atlanta’s next game was not established in the postgame reports. Penix was hurt late in the fourth quarter, when Ravens linebacker Tavius Robinson sacked him with the score tied 23-23. Penix briefly left the field, then returned for one play and threw an incomplete pass before Atlanta punted. Stefanski said Penix was unable to get comfortable enough to continue. Tua Tagovailoa replaced him for overtime. Baltimore scored a touchdown on its opening overtime possession. Tagovailoa then entered for Atlanta, and Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton intercepted him on the second play to end the game. The loss left the Falcons with a 2-3 record, according to the reports. Penix completed 19 of 32 passes for 240 yards and a touchdown before leaving.
