Patrick Witt’s White House Crypto Council Assignment Ends

Published 15 October 2026

The White House confirmed on October 14 that Patrick Witt’s temporary assignment to the White House Crypto Council had expired, ending his tenure as the council’s executive director. The administration did not name a successor or describe who would handle his responsibilities. Witt was a Department of Defense employee temporarily assigned to the council, according to a person familiar with the arrangement. The council, formally known as the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, coordinates the administration’s digital-asset policy. The White House said it appreciated Witt’s service and wished him well, but provided no further details about the council’s staffing. His departure follows the exits of two other senior figures in the administration’s cryptocurrency policy team. David Sacks, the White House adviser on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency, left in March 2026. Deputy director Harry Jung left at the end of July. Witt had been the council’s only remaining known staff member, according to reporting on its staffing. The White House has not said that the council has been dissolved or that its policy work has ended.
