Ledger Halts Wallet Sales Across Seven Asian Markets
Ledger has asked resellers and distributors in seven Asian markets to stop selling its hardware wallets and remove them from shelves while it investigates reports of tampered devices and cryptocurrency losses. The request covers Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Hong Kong, the company said in an Oct. 13 security update. Ledger said confirmed incidents remain limited to Southeast Asia. It has not verified a loss linked to a device purchased elsewhere and said it has no indication that its infrastructure, systems, services or direct sales channel were compromised. Those statements reflect the company’s account while its investigation is underway; the supplied reports do not establish an independently verified total for losses. Ledger’s security research team, known as Ledger Donjon, is examining devices it receives to investigate how they were tampered with and where in the distribution chain the tampering occurred. The company has not announced when sales in the affected markets might resume. The investigation followed reports that users experienced losses from Ledger devices purchased through CryptoBilis, a Malaysian reseller.
