Paramount Developing Live-Action Cyberpunk 2077 Film

Published 8 October 2026

Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and game developer CD Projekt Red attached to produce. The project is based on CD Projekt Red’s role-playing game, which takes place in the futuristic city of Night City. The film is in development, but reports do not identify a director, describe the plot or give a release date. It is also not known whether Keanu Reeves will return. Reeves played Johnny Silverhand, a rock star and criminal whose digital likeness is central to the game’s story. Cyberpunk 2077 follows V, a mercenary in Night City who becomes connected to Silverhand through a biochip. The game’s story involves the pair seeking a way to separate their consciousnesses. The film’s creative team has not said whether the adaptation will follow that storyline or take a different approach. The game debuted in December 2020. Reports say it has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, while its expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has sold more than 15 million. Those figures have been reported in connection with the film’s development.
