Nvidia Pledges £250 Million in UK AI Safety Compute
Nvidia says it will provide £250 million worth of computing resources over five years to support artificial intelligence safety and security research in the United Kingdom, including testing systems that can act autonomously. The commitment is valued at £50 million in computing annually and is access to computing power, not a cash donation, according to the company. Nvidia said the resources will be delivered through UK-based Nvidia Cloud Partners, with infrastructure hosted in Britain. A portion is intended for three university-linked research groups: BOLD at the University of Oxford, SOFAIR at University College London, and Imperial College London’s Frontier AI Research Lab. The wider UK AI safety research community is also expected to benefit. The work is intended to address the safety of agentic AI systems, which can pursue goals and act in changing conditions. The groups’ research includes secure AI agents, open-model security, threat mitigation, safety engineering and robotics. Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang said the commitment would support safety testing for agentic AI, and said AI capability and safety must advance together.
