Nvidia says DLSS 5 update doubles model speed

Published 13 October 2026

Nvidia says an October update to its DLSS 5 neural-rendering model will double the model’s processing speed compared with its September version and reduce its video-memory use by 20% at 4K resolution. The update is scheduled to arrive in NBA 2K27 on October 16, where Nvidia says it can raise game frame rates by up to 1.4 times. The performance and memory figures are claims from Nvidia, not independent test results. The company attributes the improvements to neural-model refinements and system-level pipeline optimizations. It says the updated model has half the performance overhead of the September version while maintaining comparable visual fidelity. The model’s speed increase does not mean games will run twice as fast, because DLSS 5 is only one part of a game’s overall frame-rate workload. Nvidia says the NBA 2K27 update can deliver frame rates up to 40% higher. In one reported 4K comparison, the game’s rate rose from 65 to 90 frames per second, a gain consistent with that rounded upper-bound claim. Nvidia also says the October model is about 24% smaller than its predecessor, at roughly 118 million parameters, and uses 20% less VRAM at 4K.
