Nvidia Adds $150 Billion to Share Buyback Authorization

Published 2 October 2026

Nvidia’s board authorized an additional $150 billion in share repurchases on September 28, lifting the company’s total buyback authorization to about $235 billion. The authorization came as Nvidia shares reached a reported record of $237.88 in Friday morning trading, putting the company’s market value at roughly $5.7 trillion, according to one report. The board’s decision adds to a repurchase program described in the reports as extending through fiscal 2028. One account gives January 2028 as the spending deadline, so the exact end date is unclear. A buyback allows a company to use cash to purchase its own shares, reducing the number in circulation; the authorization permits spending but does not establish how much Nvidia will ultimately repurchase. Nvidia’s recent results show the scale of its business. For the quarter ended July 26, the company reported $96.2 billion in revenue, up 106% from a year earlier, with $89 billion generated by its data-center business. Nvidia has forecast $108 billion in revenue for the current quarter, a projection rather than a reported result. The buyback arrives amid strong demand for computing equipment used in artificial intelligence.
