Nuremberg Airport Suspends Flights After Cockpit Emergency Report

Published 13 October 2026

Nuremberg Airport suspended flight operations on Tuesday after authorities received a report of an aviation emergency involving a passenger plane arriving from Corfu, Greece. Eurofighter jets escorted the aircraft, which landed safely, while police and airport officials investigated. The cause of the emergency report has not been disclosed. The airport said operations had been halted because of an aviation emergency. Police said an emergency report was received from inside the cockpit shortly after 11 a.m. local time. The aircraft was escorted to Nuremberg, where it landed safely. Police later said inspections found no danger and everyone aboard was safe. The airport suspension followed a separate overnight alert. Three pilots reported seeing an unidentified object near the airport between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. while aircraft were taking off or landing, according to police accounts. Officers, working with airport personnel and air traffic control, searched the area, including with a police helicopter, but did not locate or verify an object. Authorities have not confirmed that a drone was involved.
