Netflix Releases First Trailer for Gerwig’s Narnia Film

Published 13 October 2026

Netflix released the first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew on October 13, offering a first look at the story behind Narnia’s creation. The film is scheduled to open in theaters worldwide, including IMAX, on February 12, 2027, before beginning to stream on Netflix on April 2, 2027. IMAX previews are scheduled to start February 10. The trailer follows children Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer as they encounter Digory’s uncle, Andrew Ketterley, and travel between worlds using magical rings. Their journey brings them to the newly formed Narnia and introduces Jadis, who becomes the White Witch, and Aslan, the lion associated with the creation of the land. Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” plays over the footage. Gerwig has described her approach as musical, saying she wanted the film to feel like a rock opera. The music-led presentation accompanies scenes of the children’s discoveries and glimpses of Narnia taking shape. The trailer does not disclose every element of the film, including, according to one account, Meryl Streep’s voice for Aslan.
