Nepal Rescue Efforts Continue for Trapped Hydropower Workers

Published 31 August 2026

Rescuers in Nepal are racing against time to free dozens of hydropower workers believed trapped in tunnels after devastating floods, as search efforts entered a sixth day on Monday. Officials said no contact has been made with those feared trapped, but the government believes more than 100 workers may still be alive inside multiple tunnels across several hydropower projects. The crisis stems from a catastrophic deluge of ice, rock, and debris that swept down a mountain valley on the China-Nepal border on Wednesday morning.
