Nepal mobilizes billions in funds, international aid for flood response

Published 28 August 2026

Nepal is mobilizing billions of rupees in domestic funds and coordinating a surge of international aid to respond to devastating floods that struck its northern border region near Tibet, with officials warning the damage may exceed that of the 2015 earthquake. The government has declared disaster crisis areas in the Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts and is implementing a one-door policy to manage relief distribution. The floods, triggered by a wall of water and debris crashing down the Bhotekoshi river, buried buildings and wiped out entire villages and market areas. The disaster has prompted an immediate financial response from the Nepali government.
