Seven bodies recovered in India from Nepal floods

Published 28 August 2026

Indian authorities have recovered seven bodies from rivers flowing from Nepal, believed to be victims of devastating floods in the Himalayan nation, as border districts in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand remain on high alert. The discovery underscores the scale of the disaster, which has killed at least 472 people and left more than 1,400 missing. The bodies were found floating in the Gandak and other rivers in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj and Kushinagar districts, which border Nepal's flood-hit southern regions. "Four unidentified bodies were recovered in the district on Thursday," Maharajganj District Magistrate Gaurav Singh Sogarwal said.
