UK Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Imported Eggs Kills Two, Sickens 474

At least two people in the United Kingdom have died and more than 400 have fallen ill in a growing salmonella outbreak linked to imported eggs, health officials said. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reported on August 28 that the total number of confirmed cases has risen to 474, with two fatalities recorded. The outbreak, which has been under investigation since May, involves three distinct genetic clusters of the salmonella enteritidis strain. Officials stated that the clusters, identified as t5.9411, t0.24068, and t5.9765, have shown increasing cases since June. Their genetic analysis suggests a common link to imported eggs.
