Navarro Says Florida Primaries Keep Her Registered Republican

Published 7 October 2026

Ana Navarro said she remains registered as a Republican in Florida because the state’s closed primaries limit participation to party voters, and she wants to vote against MAGA candidates in those contests. She made the explanation during a discussion on The View after actor Michael Douglas asked why she had not registered as an independent. Navarro said her party registration was a practical choice tied to the primary system. Florida voters generally must be registered with a party to vote in that party’s primary, according to the supplied accounts. Navarro said she wanted to use her participation to influence which candidates advance, rather than give up her ability to vote in Republican primaries. Her answer came amid questions about how she identifies politically. In an interview published days earlier, Navarro rejected the idea that she should be considered a Trump-aligned Republican and objected to others defining what counts as Republican. She said she still holds traditional Republican values that she believes are not represented by the party as it currently operates. Navarro has criticized Donald Trump and supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
