Modi Marks 25 Years Leading Governments

Narendra Modi marked 25 years as head of a government on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, recalling his first oath as Gujarat chief minister on the same date in 2001 and crediting the public’s trust for his political journey. The Bharatiya Janata Party organized events across India, while the Union Cabinet passed a resolution congratulating him on Tuesday. Modi addressed a gathering at the Seva Jyoti programme at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. He said the support of citizens had enabled his journey and that they had the greatest claim on his service. He also thanked political colleagues and National Democratic Alliance partners, and renewed his commitment to public service. Modi became Gujarat chief minister in 2001 and remained in the post for more than 12 years before becoming prime minister in 2014. His milestone marks a quarter-century leading governments at the state and national levels. In remarks at the event, he presented the anniversary as an occasion to look ahead as well as reflect on his time in office, reiterating the goal of a developed India by 2047. The BJP’s monthlong Seva Sankalp Abhiyan began on September 17, Modi’s birthday.
