DMK challenges Rahul Gandhi over Tamil Nadu voter deletions

Published 7 October 2026

DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his position on alleged voter deletions in Tamil Nadu during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, as Gandhi and other opposition leaders protested the process in Delhi. Annadurai asked why Gandhi had not addressed the Tamil Nadu allegations or endorsed a statement attributed to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge calling for the dissolution of governments elected after SIR. In a post on X on October 6, Annadurai questioned whether Gandhi was taking an inconsistent position by joining a broader opposition campaign against the Election Commission while, in the DMK’s view, not speaking comparably about Tamil Nadu. He also asked whether Gandhi was avoiding the issue because of actor Vijay. Annadurai used personal insults in the post; his remarks were directed at Gandhi, rather than a formal statement of the Congress party’s position. The DMK has alleged that millions of names were removed from Tamil Nadu’s electoral rolls during SIR.
