Delhi Police register FIR over Akashvani Bhawan protest

Published 6 October 2026

Delhi Police registered a first information report against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other opposition figures over their alleged unauthorized entry into Akashvani Bhawan during a protest on October 6, officials said Wednesday. Police have not disclosed the legal sections invoked in the case, leaving its specific allegations unclear. The protest followed an INDIA bloc march from Parliament toward the Election Commission of India headquarters, which police stopped before it reached the offices. Police said no permission had been sought or granted for the march. After the march was halted, opposition lawmakers staged a sit-in, and Gandhi, Vadra and other leaders entered the Akashvani Bhawan premises, where they continued the demonstration and sought a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other election officials. Police said protesters were asked to leave but refused, and officers later removed and detained them. According to the police account, about 260 people, including 10 MPs, were detained during the protest and later released. Reports described the sit-in as lasting more than eight hours.
