Microsoft moves Family and Premium plans to shared 2 TB storage
Microsoft has changed how OneDrive storage is allocated in Microsoft 365 Family and Premium plans, replacing individual 1 TB allowances with a shared 2 TB pool for the subscription owner and up to five members. A full six-person plan’s total storage therefore falls from 6 TB to 2 TB, according to Microsoft’s support information. The new arrangement applies immediately to new or upgraded plans. Existing Family and Premium subscribers generally move to the shared limit at their first renewal on or after May 2, 2027, Microsoft says. An eligible plan change before then can bring the switch forward. Microsoft says subscribers will receive an email before the change takes effect. The shared quota combines members’ usage, but does not give them access to one another’s files. Microsoft says storage add-ons purchased by members, along with eligible free storage grants, are added to the shared pool. The company also says some existing Family and Premium subscribers may receive bonus storage at renewal, but the reported support information does not specify who qualifies or how much they would receive.
