Microsoft opens Surface Laptop Ultra preorders at $2,599

Published 7 October 2026

Microsoft opened preorders for its Surface Laptop Ultra on October 7, pricing the RTX Spark-powered laptop from $2,599 and saying shipments are scheduled to begin October 16. The company is positioning the device for developers, creators and others who want to run artificial intelligence workloads on a laptop rather than relying entirely on cloud computing. The announced configurations range up to $5,899, according to reported Microsoft pricing. The base model is described as having 24 gigabytes of unified memory and a 512-gigabyte solid-state drive. Higher-end versions offer up to 128 gigabytes of memory. The laptop uses Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform, built around an Arm-based processor and Blackwell graphics technology. Microsoft says the system is designed to run AI models and software agents locally. It has also promoted the laptop for creative work, including video production, and demonstrated games running on the device. The company’s comparisons with a MacBook Pro and its statements about AI performance are company claims; the reports do not provide independent benchmark results confirming them.
